From Results Day to Uni Life: Your 30-Day Prep Plan

Posted by Sophie Compton on

Results are in and no doubt, excitement is high, so you’re probably starting to think: “How do I possibly get everything ready before Uni starts?”

Don’t panic, we’ve got you covered with a simple 30-day prep plan to make your move stress-free, fun, and organised.

(PS. Adjust the days working backwards from your move in date!)

Days 1–7: Celebrate & finalise University paperwork

  • Take a moment to celebrate! Whether it’s the results you hoped for or a step toward your journey, enjoy it.
  • Confirm your University place and accept your offer officially.
  • Sort out student finance, scholarships, or bursaries if you haven’t already.
  • Start thinking about accommodation: on-campus or private, and check move-in dates. (Top tip, now can be a great time to join student groups from your halls or accommodation providers to meet your flatmates or neighbours early.)

Days 8–14: Plan your move & order essentials

  • Make a packing list. Separate it into must-haves (bedding, towels, kitchen basics) and nice-to-haves (decor, extra kitchen gadgets).
  • Pre-order a UniKitOut starter kit - everything from bedding to kitchenware delivered straight to your accommodation. (Yes! We partner with over 300 Universities and Student Accommodation providers so we can deliver your essentials before you even arrive.)
  • If you’re moving far, book your travel early.

Days 15–21: Organise & pack smart

  • Pack non-essential items first. Things you won’t need before Uni, like spare bedding, seasonal clothes, and decor, can go in boxes early.
  • Use space-saving hacks: vacuum bags for clothes, stackable containers for kitchen items.
  • Keep documents, chargers, and essential items separate, they’re your first-day lifesavers.

Days 22–26: Sort out living and logistics

  • Confirm what’s included in your accommodation and set up any utilities if needed.
  • Think about groceries, meal prep, and budgeting. A few simple essentials when you arrive can save a lot of stress. (Our top tip, map out your nearest budget supermarket so you know where to grab the groceries as soon as you need to!)

Days 27–30: Final prep & chill

  • Pack your bag with daily essentials and double-check your checklist.
  • Take a final sweep of your room at home, don’t forget chargers, documents, and small items.
  • Take a breather. Moving to Uni is exciting, but a clear mind makes it much smoother.
  • Spend time with loved ones and get excited for the next chapter to come!

Quick Tips for a stress-free move

  • Label your boxes by room or type of item.
  • Keep a small “first-day essentials” bag handy.
  • Get friends or family involved, it makes packing more fun and quicker.
